Just continuing to drink better and better, this was the best bottle of 2004 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape I've had to date. The nose shows beautiful dark fruit, earthy black raspberry, licorice and spice aromas and it continued to open up over the evening. There's an old vine sappiness on the palate and it has surprisingly sweet, rich fruit. Medium to full bodied, this is fantastic with perfect balance, awesome texture and a long finish. The 2004 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows gorgeous black raspberry, licorice, spice and notable minerality on the nose. With air this picks up a stunningly dark, charred wood note that I simply love. Medium to full bodied palate with great balance, a clean, precise feel and a long finish. November-2006 | 2008 - 2016 | 94 | |
The 2004 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape possesses a beautiful nose that delivers raspberries, licorice, soy, minerals and subtle spice notes. Medium to full bodied with clean, pure fruit, a silky texture and fine grained tannins on the long finish. This really gained weight in the glass and is just delicious.
