More meaty and complex than the 2003, the 2001 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin has beautiful, clean grenache fruit mixed with roasted herbs, meat and earthy notes. The palate is full bodied and structured with solid fruit, impressive balance and a long finish. This bottle was opened but not decanted 6 hours before drinking. The 2001 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin has a dark red color along with a great nose of dark fruits, earth and tobacco aromas. Full bodied and fairly soft in the mouth, this shows a little funk at first but kept getting better with air.
