Deep purple in color with slight lightening at the edges; the 2003 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin shows stunning aromas of kirsch, raspberry compote, sweet spice, licorice and meaty aromas and it’s bright, clean and lifted without a hint of roast fruit. The palate is full bodied with a fat, lush texture wrapped around a core of sweet fruit and serious, fine grained tannins.

Easily the best bottle of this I've had to date and the 2003 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin is about as good as it gets for me. The nose is ripe but also restrained and complex with dark fruit, raspberry, cherry and earth aromas backed up by spice, mineral and big licorice notes. Very dark and earthy but also pure, clean and almost feminine in character. The palate is tannic as hell but has enough fruit to hold up and showcases a beautiful, precise, lush texture, awesome balance, serious structure and amazing length on the finish. Only a notch below the 2003 Pegau Reservee and simply a stunning wine.

Whoa baby... Awesome stuff. Gorgeous nose of pure cherry liqueur, raspberries and exotic spice. I could seriously just sit here and smell it all night. Picked up a little earth and minerals in the background with some air. Full bodied with a very rich, soft and seamless mouth feel that goes on and on. Actually shows a fair amount of silky sweet tannins on the finish. Suffice to say that I'm a huge fan.
