Chateauneuf du Pape | ![]() |
Started in 1898, it wasn’t until much later that this estate was revived by Henri Brunier. In the 1980’s Henri’s two sons, Daniel and Frederic assumed control of the estate and it now covers 173 acres in the eastern part of Chateauneuf du Pape with an average vine age of 50 years. This estate gets its name from the old telegraph station that was sited on a hill where the domaine now stands.
The vineyard is composed mainly of the large stones called galets and they have a hot micro-climate; typically harvesting 7 to 10 days prior other estates. Recently, the Domaine has been renamed to Vignobles Brunier. The estate practices green harvest, double sorting, selective destemming and a 15-20 day fermentation in stainless steel vats. The wines are aged for 9 months in concrete vats before being moved to 50-70Hl capacity Foudres for an additional 10 to 12 months before being bottled without filtration. This wine sees no new oak and is normally a mix of 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 15% Syrah. They also produce a second wine called Vieux-Max des Papes (also called Télégramme).
