Can this region do anything wrong? baring a natural disaster (a la 2002), these producers continue to put out simply phenomenal juice. From 1998 on, every vintage brings a unique character along with fantastic overall quality. I can’t think of another region that pairs such diversity with consistent quality.

The Vintage

Quantified as a classic, straight vintage, the growing season wasn't as hot nor dry as both 2003 and 2005 but saw a very hot early season with both June and July seeing almost 2003 temperatures. August saw a return to cooler temperatures and September saw early rains that forced the producers to wait for the vineyards to dry out prior to harvest.

The Wines

This vintage has been compared to 2004 but after tasting through a handful of domaines, I’m hard pressed to view these wines in a similar light. For the most part, 2006s have more flesh, fruit and depth than the 2004s and are also well structured with beautiful balance and overall harmony. These should drink well young but should surprise some people with their ageablity.
